Winter Concert Music Lyrics & Links

If your singer would like to practice and memorize their concert music at home, please follow the links on my blog (on the left-hand side menu).

At the end of the concert, we will bring all singers back onto stage and close with one final song.  Below are the lyrics for the students to practice.  I look forward to our rehearsing after Fall break!

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God, our creator, neighbors all are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me.  Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
And let it begin with me.

Music Theory Online Resource!

Does your student need some music theory reinforcement?  www.musictheory.net/ is a wonderful resource!  This website has free content (a lot of which we have covered in class!).  Look under the "Lessons" and "Exercises" headings in the top left corner of the home page for some helpful guides and activities.

Hope you're all having a wonderful Fall break!

Theory Time Workbook Grades

Over the last 2 weeks or so I have meticulously read through, marked, and graded every student in 3rd-5th grade’s Theory Time workbook.  Until the students handed in their workbooks, each class started with 5-10 minutes of “bell work” in their Theory Time books.  During this time, students were able to work quietly and ask questions as I walked around the room.  The students understood that their workbooks would be turned in for a quiz grade and were given extra time to complete unfinished pages before turning them in.

Each book was graded on a 4-point scale:
4 – almost everything is correct,
3 – most things are done and I can see they understand the content,
2 – inconsistent (leaving some things blank or incorrect, but I can see some effort), and
1 – little to no effort was given.

Emails went out this evening to parents/guardians of students with 1's.  If you did not see an email, ask your scholar what number they received!  As I told the students, our goal is that everyone is at a 3 or 4 by the end of the year.

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Fall break!

Winter Concert Info!

The Winter Concert is coming up!  Here is the information everyone should know:

  1. The concert is MANDATORY – if a student cannot come for an unavoidable reason, their family must inform me TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE (October 29th) so they can be given a substitute assignment.  If a student is sick the day of the concert, the family must send a message that day informing me.  If a student does not attend the concert and no explanation is given, they receive a failing grade for the concert.

  1. DRESS CODE: Students must wear black on bottom, white on top.  Black shoes, black pants (black skirt option for girls), black socks/tights, white shirt, and a tie for boys (bowie is fine).
